Funny loopholes? Six pirate pigs with eyepatches!
How do you figure out these kinds of problems
in school I always get them on a test but never understand them.

Like most math problems there's more than one way to do it. For this the easiest way is:
Each pig adds two extra feet, so there are (44 - 30) / 2 = 7 pigs and (30/2) - 7 = 8 peacocks.
Each pig adds two extra feet, so there are (44 - 30) / 2 = 7 pigs and (30/2) - 7 = 8 peacocks.
Love Java's simple solutions!! Way to go
Let x = # of peacocks
Let y = # of pigs
x + y = 30/2 (each animal has 2 eyes)
x + y = 15
2x + 4y = 44 (each peacock has 2 legs, each pig has 4 legs)
since x = 15 - y, by substitution:
2(15 - y) + 4y = 44
30 - 2y + 4y = 44
30 + 2y = 44
30 + (-44) = -2y
30 - 44 = -2y
-14 = -2y
y = -14/-2
y = 7 (pigs)
since x = 15 - y:
x = 15 - 7
x = 8 (peacocks)

x = 15 - 7
x = 8 (peacocks)
