Six Letters it Contains
Riddles are little poems or phrases that pose a question that needs answering. Riddles frequently rhyme, but this is not a requirement.
A word I know,
six letters it contains
subtract just one,
and twelve is what remains.

| The official english dictionary says that dozens is another word for 12, which is not the word that we're supposed to be looking for. |

| "Thirteen" also works. It only contains 6 letters; two of them are used twice. Subtract just one from thirteen and twelve remains.
I like your answer better!! |

| I thought the answer was 'thirteen'. It contains more than 6 letters, but contains 6 none the less. I think it would fit. |

| i thought we were allowed to rearrange the letters in the word... thus i came up with "zonked"... if you subtract the "k" and rearrange the letters you spell "dozen"... the true answer was absolutely clever nonetheless!!! |

| The answer could also be thirteen. Thirteen only has six letters in it (although 't' and 'e' are repeated). |

| Kept trying to add a letter to the middle of dozen. Then realized all it took was an 'S'. Doh!!! |

| I'm impressed with the answer dogg6pound9 came up with. If it had been that hard I don't think I would have gotten it.
Thanks for the teaser. |

| I liked the answers 'thirteen' and 'zonked' much better. I got to dozen right away but would never have gone to simply 's'. I saw zoned; wished I'd seen a 'k' in it! To me it belongs in trick instead of riddle. |

| Thirteen can't be an alternative because it contains more than six letters. I think "zonked" is great! |
