Woooohoooo! Lets have a great game everyone and let the discussions begin.

Yay! This game filled up quickly. I think I'll wait until tomorrow to make any decision on who to vote for first. Anyone have any ideas?
If the games are alike we have three wolfs? No one knows until they sign in. Nothiing to go on yet - So let's have a great game.

With 15 people there are 3 wolves, yes, you are correct. I'm excited we finally got going! And with what looks like some fun people! 5 posts in 2 hours!
I am a fan of voting out inactive people the first round, unless there is something obvious to go by, since it is mostly hunches and what not. The reason I do this is:
If they are a wolf, excelent.
If they are human, they don't contribute anything to the game. I would much rather have intelligent discussion with a wolf who could give themselves away than never know anything and never get any help voting for wolves from an inactive human.
I know that this is a controversial strategy, that is just my opinion. As I said, I am more than willing to go for an active person if we have compelling reason to do so, but otherwise, this is my first round strategy. I won't start thinking about who to vote for until we get closer to the end of the round, because I know that some people only check every day or so, and I don't want to prematurely deam an active person as inactive just because they are working or in school.

mocha has a great strategy (mostly because it's exactly what I do). once in a while I like to give out the *most inactive player* awards...especially during the first rounds
however, I do agree on waiting due to work or school. this year, my school's schedule changed and we have exams this week. Silly, really, because we go off for two weeks for christmas, then come back and take exams???
on the other hand, I feel like distributing some awards, so here we go.
1st prize goes to: kittycat300. last login: yesterday
everyone else has logged in today
hmm... not much to go on lol
however, it's a good thing because we'll be active which makes the game oh so much more fun

This is my first time playing but the inactive strategy sounds like a good way to start the game.
I agree with Mocha and Dach. It's always good to get rid of inactives early on. In the last game I was in, me and the other werewolf were waiting for a long time for each round to end because all the players left were inactives. It is quite boring when it comes down to that. On that note, I'll wait to vote until later!

I understand exactly what you mean witty I thin I will probally do the same. I will wait for more info tho
Hello everyone I agree with Mocha and Dach as well. I hate when the day takes forever b/c there aren't enough votes to shoot a wolf.
Wow, 9 people posted already!!! We might have to find a new strategy if every one is active! (Which, by the way, would be an excelent predicament, if you ask me) I'm glad you can see where I am coming from, I have definately been strung up for even suggesting we get rid of an inactive because they "could be human"... I just don't get it, everyone "could be human".... Anyway, I'm just venting now. It's been a long day at school/work (one in the same for me) Oh, and dachs, I grew up having fall finals after break. That's normal for me! Our finals are next week, so I've got to prepare them, come up with study guides, and so on, ASAP!!!

I agree with everyone's ideas on the inactive issue, as they are not any help to humans except prolonging the length of a game possibly. Bu I don't necessarily agree that it should be in the first round. If you do this so early I find it gives the wolves a bit of an edge, not to mention it helps the wolves in not coming up with a strategy of their own, unless of course a wolf suggests or starts it. I am not accusing or pointing any fingers at this point, but merely stating my opinion. I do believe there is a right time to vote out inactives, early on, just not always in the first round. It depends on the discussions or lack there of. However, with that said I don't think there will be a lack of discussion this game.
The last game I played we had 15 players. Not only did they all post in the first round but 14 out of 15 voted in the first round. The last would have voted but a majority was reached. It was awesome. I would love to see that again.

I know what I'll do: If everyone's active, I'll just vote for whoever's being the most suspicious.

hahaha mocha this is all new to me
but I have my AP European History final tomorrow (wish me luck) so no more posts for the rest of tonight...maybe tomorrow afternoon
and a thought: if no one votes, does the server shoot a random person, like in a tie? maybe we'll get to see...

I, too, like most of you, believe getting rid of inactives is a great idea. To quote someone else - no post, no vote, no fun!
I've not got a backup plan for when everyone posts. Any ideas?
Good luck Dach - and yes the computer picks random anytime there is a tie - all single votes 5 with 2 whatever. The computer could pick a human or a wolf.

cinn, is the "last game" you are referring to the one that I was in? 'Speedy Wolf Game" or something? Wow, that game WAS intense!!! Then the one I was in last was BORING, with no one posting. Also, can you elaborate more on why voting inactives gives wolves an edge? I don't quite follow you.

I'm also all for voting for inactive people in the first round. There's really no way to tell who might be a wolf, so the only alternative would be a random vote, which would be likely to eliminate a human as well. Since inactives make the game less fun, I think it's logical to vote for them this first round.
If everyone is active, I think I'll just vote randomly (roll a dice, pull a name out of a hat, whatever), unless someone's been acting suspicious, of course.

Hi mocha, all I meant was if you outright say up front you are voting out inactives and there are more than 1, then a wolf has the perfect opportunity to lead the vote, especially if 1 of the inactives is a wolf. They will choose the human, if there is one, and try to get the human shot or not vote for the inactive as it is better for a wolf to leave an inactive around as they can't vote against a wolf once all the actives are around.
With that said I am not opposed to voting for an inactive, but the first round may not always be the best time to do so. I do believe there is a right time to do that. When is the right time? Who knows, it depends on the discussions during the rounds. The more discussion there is, you may find a definite lead on a wolf. Just my 2 cents worth. Does that make more sense mocha?
But after saying all that, its a moot point as everyone is active. Whether or not everyone participates in discussion remains to be seen.
So far its going very good as far as logins and postings.

Thanks cinn, that was a wonderful explanation. I appreciate the time you put into it. I had never thought about the wolves using the inactive vote to direct at a human covertly (I don't know why I never thought of that) Couldn't they do the same thing when voting for a random person? They suggest a random person to vote for, get others to go along with it to move the game along, and we have the same predicament, just that they are less justified in their decision if they are ever called out on it later? Which (I think, if I follow my own logic) puts me back to the same decision, that if we are going to shoot a random person (of which the wolves will always try for that random person to not be a wolf), and we can't prove if the person starting the shooting is human or wolf, then we may as well shoot an inactive (for reasons stated above)
Another question, you mention that wolves will often not vote for an inactive because inactives help them in the end. So wouldn't people who are against voting for inactives more likely to be wolves, which could help us in the end?
I hope you don't mind discussing strategy, I find it helpful and interesting. I hope you know I'm not questioning you (at this point :wink and more just discussing strategy. Do you mind if I copy this into nicats' Forum about TWG?

Nicats has a forum on TWG? I didn't know - will have to go add my two cents. I tried to get her to join kaykay's game but she was in a game already.
Mocha - Cin feels what he is posting - I was in the last game with him and I was a wolf last game - he said the same thing. about 5 games back someone else was saying the same thing - However I really think an inactive just leaves a hole which is good to fill by deleting them from the game. Inactives can only help wolves as far as I can tell.

Hi mocha,
I totally agree with your first paragraph. If nothing pops out in the discussion then sure vote for an inactive. I have done so in the past. It doesn't have to be that way always. Ultimately, its all in how you play the game. I have certainly not voted for inactives in the first round when I was human.
I knew when I made the post that I would run the risk of sounding like a wolf. But discussion is what makes this game fun. At some point or other if you are someone who likes to post, as myself, no matter what you say, to someone you may seem like a wolf. I don't have a problem in saying my opinion, whether I am human or wolf. In all my games I have always been a human, including this one, and I know a lot of my posts have seemed wolfish which ended in me being shot more often than eaten, but I continue to post as I see the game progressing. I may change my opinion during the game depending on the discussions.
As for not voting for an inactive, are they more likely to be a wolf? I can't say for sure one way or the other. As I said I have not voted for inactives before and I was always human. I have never been a wolf and I am unsure as to how my strategy would change. I have cetainly seen differences in some people playing as a wolf and human, but not everyone is good at covering up being a wolf.
I certainly don't mind discussing strategy and you can post this in nicats forum. I have played a few games with nicats and I believe we are both on the same page with most strategies. You would be a fool to not question me about my post, but I hope throughout more discussion you will be able to determine for yourself whether I am human or wolf. I don't like to constantly state "I am human." I would prefer everyone to make an informed decision based on all my posts and not one little part that may seem wolfish.
I have said this in past games and will say it again, once accused it is very hard to counter that accusation without looking guilty. Its all in everyone's perception of what you say. One comment may look guilty to some but innocent to others. Countering an accusation may look guilty and not countering may look guilty.
As zonarita stated in the pre-game discussion,
I fully agree with her. I don't play by those rules and would hope everyone here doesn't as well.
Edit: Thanks zonarita. As you said: I post as I feel. You can call it the woman in me if you want, but wait I am all woman. And again I agree an inactive leaves a hole that has to be eliminated at some point, in the early rounds preferably.
Edited for spelling.

I agree with Zonarita. Inactives are pretty much just a burden to the humans.

hey mocha - lats game i was in the wolves were going on a 'vote for active people line' - and it was to their detriment - I worked out logically that the 2 people calling for us to vote for actives were actually the wolves... I dunno, I've played this game a lot and never seen that strategy before - it was easy to pick because it was so obvious.... I think all wolves give themselves away sooner or later, so we've all got to be on the lookout for something suspicious constantly - given that this is such an active game, hopefully it won't be too long until someone does.
I'm thinking this round will be a fish-vote for me, I'd like to give everyone a chance to get online and say their piece before voting for inactives. I actually had a strategic idea earlier (but tell me if I'm way off I'm happy to change my vote) - if we vote off an active person this round, we can see if the night times out - if it does, it's more likely an inactive is a wolf (because if all wolves were active, they probably wouldn't want to leave first kill to chance), and then we have solid grounds to vote off inactive people.
Of course, if everyones 'log in' status is 'today' when the first 'night' ends, we're stuffed...
oh and actually, re-thinking this theory - does anyone know what all of the 'yesterdays' and 'todays' refer to? cos I live in australia - are all of the options based on 'american time'? So my theroy might actually be a bit confusing then...

And thats why I wanted you to know that you are no more suspect on my list right now than everyone else. I appreciate you posting so much, I think it really helps the game. If you are a wolf, we should have an idea of that in a round or two, but just because you post like that does not imply that you are a wolf.
Thanks for the permission to post this. If you want, nicats forum discussion. I need to go to work now, I'll be back around in my break

Beetle - check your Braingle time to your home time - that should help ya. The Braingle time is the same as California time if ya want a quickie to compare to US. I've used the time out thing to help me, too Yesterday would be not posted since midnight Cal time.
Re your post Beetle if a wolf holds back and doesn't post or vote - then I think it be a new wolf. AFter playing a few games one can see that is not a good strategy, especially if humans get rid of their dead - non playing.
The wolf can see who everyone is but the seer is - BTW Seer - don't forget to divine someone - seers almost always forget the first round out. Or so I've read I was a second seer once and I too forgot.

I thought you might like that zonarita.
Fathead, what's the rush? We still have over 26 hours left. Lets give some more players a chance to post and see if we can come up with anything. But as someone said earlier, the first round is usually a fish vote, unless there is an inactive to vote for.
Edited to add color. I always forget to add color, not that you have to, but I like color.

AFter playing a few games one can see that is not a good strategy, especially if humans get rid of their dead - non playing.
re:
1st paragraph: thanks for explaining!
2nd paragraph: i'm not entirely sure what you're trying to say - are you agreeing with my strategy or saying its not a good one? hehe or is it nothing to do with my strategy?

Actually I was the other wolf in the last game with Witty Kitty and we wittled down all the active players till all there was was inactives so the wolves won the game. So it is actually best to get rid of inactives so that the wolves don't have that advantage at the end of the game.

I must confess that all of these strategies sound very interesting and baffling. I hope I pick things up quickly.
Well the only two that haven't put their two cents in is KittyCat and Sweet Pretty so far. If they don't post by 6 my time tonight I will vote for one of them.

First of all, wow. We had a lot of posts in just one day (approx. 24 hrs. since my last post). On to business...
All right from my current post we have just under one day (23 hrs 28 min) to pick someone. Everyone's active, and no one's doing something stupid or suspicious...so I got nothin!
Zonarita: That's a good strategy for a wolf, but sometimes being inactive can clear a person. In my first game (only a few weeks ago) we had three inactives for the first few days (including myself sadly). However, the first night lasted only a few hours, so the inactives couldn't have been wolves. But I guess you're right that it's not a good wolf strategy: it wouldn't work to clear a wolf.
Group: As a whole, we've really just talked strategies for both humans and wolves (and seers, thanks Zonarita!). Nothing so far about who to vote for. Is this a problem?
And bexta rox, please stop posting in all caps. It annoys me.

I still don't have any better idea than I did before so I think I'm sticking with the vote-for-inactives strategy. I'm with BorgQueen that KittyCat3000 and sweetpretty1 seem like the most logical choices right now. KittyCat3000 posted once during round 0, but hasn't been on in 2 days and sweetpretty1 has been online but hasn't posted. Unless they both post before tonight, I'll probably vote for one of them.
Anyway, I think cinnamon30 made a good point that voting for inactives would easily allow wolves to steer the discussion to humans; however, I think that it would be just as easy for wolves to steer the discussion to a human if we decided to do a random vote. After all, with 3 wolves and 12 humans a random vote will most likely select a human anyway. Since inactive players help wolves and chances are we're going to shoot a human anyway, we're better off shooting an inactive human than an active one.

lol Fathead -
I'm in AZ and Braingle time is an hour ahead of me. At my 11 pm it is midnight the changing time.
Since Washington should be the same as Cal then I must have gone the wrong direction. So sorry.
Borg explained one way inactives can help the wolves. Again I quote no post, no vote, no fun. I'll add no win!
Celebrate the moment!

Okay Im not going to wait any longer. Kittycat3000 hasn't logged on in 2 days and sweetpretty1 has been on today but just hasn't posted yet. So Im gonna go ahead and vote for Kittycat3000 unless she gets on and posts. If she posts before the day is up I may switch my vote.

Okay, now that kittycat3000 has posted, I think I'll go ahead and vote for sweetpretty1. I'll come back tonight and change my vote if necessary.
Good luck with your tests and homework, kittycat!

It looks like everyone has either logged on site, posted or voted.
Should we start a list of suspicious behavior?
What would be on it?
Posts that never say anything/avoidance? Posts that accuse? four legs?
There are bound to be some hunches at this point - why, what seems odd?
Fathead who's suspicious?

I'm for this "list" of yours. It would include unjustified accusations or apparently misleading information; just use your instincts. If someone loudly protests, "Noooo! I'm not a wo-o-o-o-o-olf!" without giving us someone else to target and at least a plausible reason, that might be good enough reason to join in voting for him/her. (Well, you can figure it out better than I, most likely.)What would be on it?

well there has been a rather large discussion about inactives I think it is a good idea also to vote for inactives and there has been enough time now to post and the only one that hasn't is sweetpretty1 hmmm I will also vote for her for now but I will keep checking in periodically just in case.
Kethry sweetpretty shares your avi. In the Phillippians area - may be getting on shortly.
Just joined the site this month and may not have a handle on the game.
I may also vote for her as we might get a wolf with this inactive. Wouldn't that be nice. I'll wait a few hours just in case.

I'm checking in one last time, and I think my vote for sweetpretty1 is going to have to stand since I'm probably not going to have time to log in tomorrow morning (and even if I did, any decisions I make at 5:30 are unlikely to be terribly logical ). I haven't seen anything terribly suspicious yet. Hopefully next round we'll have a little bit more information to go on.
I'm sticking with my original thoughts. sweetpretty is the only inactive at the end of round 1, so that's where my vote is going. I'm glad we've had a lot of discussion this round, it will help us next round!!! Oh, and Fathead, "Noooo! I'm not a wo-o-o-o-o-olf" Sorry, I couldn't help myself!

i'm going for sweetpretty too - i mean, she obviously has the maj by now, so my vote doesn't really make that much difference, but inactives annoy me, so I'm gonna go for her anyway. This game times out when I (should be) tucked up in bed, so I may not get an oppertunity to either say much more (having people over for dinner and a swim tonight!), or change my vote if anyone comes up with a better theory.
