Story:
Essiska woke with a start, glancing reflexively out her window to gauge the time. The dim pinkness of the eastern horizon told her that the morning was on schedule, but something was still wrong. Her mind raced as her fingers and lips numbly rehearsed her usual morning invocations. As her magics cleansed, clothed her, nourished her, and smoothed out the dressings of her nightmare-tossed bed, she let her consciousness drift over and through the tower of Maelim, seeking the source of the disturbance. Just as her staff came to her hand, her eyes flew open with alarm. Losing no time to hesitation, her feet left the floor and she flew out of her room and down the stairs, held aloft by her magic and quickened by her apprehension.
Despite all her haste, however, she arrived too late at the quarters of the Mage Coolus.
With a mixture of duty, trepidation, and morbid fascination, she opened the door to Coolus's first chamber. When the door finally opened wide enough to permit her vision to fall on what lay therein, she found herself unwilling to move for long minutes. The other Mages, having sensed the same as the High Archmage, had all arrived at her side before she had the strength to react further. At length, she drew in a fortifying breath and turned to face them, with the contents of Coolus's room visible over her shoulder.
His robes and his staff lay crumbled and broken near the center of the floor. The jewel that once rested at the top of the staff was missing. A fine dust pooled instead near that shattered end of the staff. Of his body, there was at first no obvious sign, until one Mage cried out and pointed at a small shape just visible near the neck of the empty robes: a misshapen lump of what looked like pocked and scarred, dull lead. The Mages knew at once what that distorted mass signified. It was what happened to a mortal who has had all their energy and magic drained completely from their being, leaving only their tired soul and a lifeless clump behind. The only comfort was that Coolus was now at his rest in the Astral Skies.
"Now we see why we must stop the fiend or fiends before they can continue this crime. Do not allow this to happen again, if you have the power to do so. You have your magics prepared?" The Mages indicated that they did indeed. "Then do not hesitate in it's use. Find these abominations so that we can destroy them." With that, Essiska left them.
Notes:
Everyone who sent me a list should have received a PM from me informing them of the powers they now have available. Just as a reminder, everyone should now have at least three Gift points at their disposal. If you have less, then you have not sent me your power wish-list yet. If you wish to use a power, PM me and I will implement it and remind you to deduct the Gift cost from your total.

Sorry for my inactivity last round. I was really busy with Real Life. Anyways, for the sake of role-play...
Lo! The Forces of Evil have darkened this peaceful land with their vile witchery! We who defend the good must use our Magic to confront this evil before it destroys us all!
I will now resume lurking silently.

We have several inactives Modul... hopefully with a new week, they will return. Murgar must go to work now, so I shall return later...

Sorry we were both inactive all weekend. RL and comp problems combined to make our lives difficult this weekend!
Ophelia shakes her head and apologizes to her fellow mages. She now goes to find her quiet spot and ponder her new powers, hoping she can use them to help.

I am terribly sorry about my inactivity this past weekend both my kids got sick and we had ashfall from thee volcano over the weekend also anyways I am back ready for vengence on behalf of our fallen mage.
So...are Kethry and Ophelia apologizing for inactivity because they are both wolves? Since the new round didn't start until the wee hours of the morning, I don't see how anyone other than a wolf COULD have been active.
Good point! Something to ponder on; although I count at least 3 of us who were inactive over the weekend, so a Lich could be laying low and framing a Mage.

I see stoberman and phrebh have yet to post... I know phrebh is very much active since he is currently playing Checkers with me, and has probably moved by the time I finish this post.
EDIT: Silent has also been silent too...

I figured beings we had 3 inactives over the night time that it would go the full time.. which it did. The wolves could not afford to clear 3 by starting day early... of course the obvious is possible, at least one of the inactives is a wolf!

Great story Valcrist. Kethry, where do you live that you have volcano ash falling on you? Stoberman has not logged on for 16 days now and seeing that we get gift points for being the first to vote for someone that gets shot. I will start the vote for him. Lunasa stuck her neck out the first round, I'm doing it this round. The good thing about casting the first vote is that it gets everyone to post more. The bad thing is that he who cast the first vote becomes suspect.

I live in Alaska. Mount Redoubt, which is about 100 miles from where I live, has erupted 19 times (at least since I left the house this morning) in the last week. Saturday nights eruption was the first that actually fell where I live.
I guess for now I will vote for Stoberman, because I may end up being away from Braingle for a while today...

I don't think I'm quite ready to jump on the stoberman bandwagon yet; I'm going to wait and see what others have to say.
Stoberman... he is on line right now... is he going to visit us?
Edit- So... I will cast the first vote for Silent. So QUICK ( ) to jump on another inactive vote... but, somehow, I just did not think Stoberman is one of our wolves... but I have NOTHING to base that on ~ just in a giddy mood. Just got off the phone - being on it for over an hour - trying to square away our cable TV bill and such. Time Warner have a lot of problems with their internet stuff - I can not get on my internet account, but in order to correct it, I have to give them my account code number, which is on the hard copy of the bill, which I don't get because I do the billing on line... so they say to call them to correct, but they can not correct it unless I can give them that account code number... oh wait - sounds like a catch 22.

Do not fear my absence of late for I have been in deep study. The mirrored runes of which show truth seem oddly darkened presently. I know not of what dark magic could affect them so, but only Lichen kind can be the culprit. Amongst my deep library, there must be the answer, if only help clear the path before us. For those of you to willingly be persuaded to cast me in the the Astral skies, remember I am a both a brother and true of heart. Fellow Modul, do not cast your doubts without just cause. Let us seek guidance from those without with no evil in their hearts. What say you Ophelia, my hearts desire.
Kethry, good luck with that Volcano,Volcano's are scarry to me. RGW good luck with Time Warner they employ Liches
edit; My vote has brought Qubert out of hiding. Willing to change my vote (except for myself) If someone can give reason to vote someone else.

LOL, I would have to agree with that assessment.
Doubt has been cast upon my beloved. I am unsure of heart at the moment, but I will hold my suspicions close for now. I will await the opinions of the Unnamed. He is the only of our brethren to not cast his opinions.

The Unnamed reads often, but says little.

Thanks Silent it has been spewing ash all morning but not high enough to reach my neck of the woods presently.
Back to the game. I am going to wait and see what happens for a little while I am unsure of who are evil liches and who are my friends at this point. I just don't trust the clues from having a long night any one of us could fool everyone by choosing not to vote and I think we have a very strong group of mages here.

The Unnamed once again casts a vote for Lunasa. Her "protecting the seer" in the last round, and waiting to see what others do in this round, are further examples of Lich behavior.

Ophelia is in agreement with the Unnamed. With little else to go on, Lunasa is acting the most Lich-like.

Always receptive to the guidance and wisdom of his peers, Modul was quickly willing to reevaluate his stance. Remembering the horror of yesterday, the thought of possibly condemning another Mage to nonexistence was terrifying. Modul fell deep in thought, rehearsing in his mind all that had occurred in the last few days. When finished, his mind was clear. It was his choice to accept the wisdom of those around him, and to cast his suspicions on Lusana. Indeed, the accusations against her seemed to Modul to be stronger than those against Qubert. Modul hurried to the Counsel to inform them of his change of mind. Perhaps he was saving a Mage, perhaps not...

I think I am going to agree with my fellow mages. Lunesa has been acting very lich like with her back and forth behavior.
I will go along with the group... but I sure hope this is the right move... otherwise I will have to look pretty close at the two who started this vote... Lunasa... to the firing range!

Story:
After the execution of Siris the previous day, silence came to be associated with guilt early in the debates that day. Both the Unnamed and Qubert fell under the shadow of suspicion. However, opinions changed when one Mage made observations about Lunesa's reserve on this day as compared to her assertiveness the day before. One by one, the Mages came to believe that Lunesa was perhaps one of the foul death mages. They made their decision quickly, perhaps fearing the deceptive powers of the Liches would sway them if they gave them time. With haste they brought the condemnded Mage before Essiska's study.
This day, the High Archmage was standing ready to meet them before her door. Seeing the group aproach, she beckoned them forwards and into the magical arboretum of alabaster that framed her door. Without words, the Mages arranged themselves as they had the previous evening, with the other Mages standing back; the accused Lunesa in the center.
Summoning her staff to her hand, The High Archmage spoke. Her words fell like cold lead, so emotionless was her manner. But whether this was from the numbing chill of her duty or from suppressing some nagging doubt, not one Mage could guess.
"Archmage Lunesa, you are accused of practicing the forbidden path of Necromancy. If we have erred, then prepare your spirit for it's journey to the Astral Skies. If we have not, then what is left of your soul is already there. In either case, you time on this plane is ended. Face you Fate!"
As before, Essiska gracefully brought her staff through a wide arc to point at Lunesa. Almost immediately, a sphere of terrible energy erupted from the gemstone at the staff's apex, streaking towards her with all the feral abandon of a hungry tiger. It sank into Lunesa's body, causing her to glow from within with its deadly brilliance. In moments, Lunesa was pulled aloft by the energy. The bright light of destruction emanating from her form grew too intense to observe, and the Mages looked away to save their sight. When they looked back, Essiska was alone in the center of the room. She was weeping softly.
A Mage asked the obvious question "what is wrong that you weep so?"
She replied: "Somehow, we have erred. At least one of Siris and Lunesa was executed in vain! I had worked magics earlier today to confirm how many Liches had originally appeared. There were only two. I still feel the presence of the Undead! They have set us against each other to our mutual distruction! Do not suffer them to continue!"
With that, she banished the remaining Mages from her room, consumed by guilt.
