Goodnight!
Round 2 clearing clue: Mister Rogers, Nov. 20, Force and Nature. What do they have in common?

Really ShDOWS... can't you wait until a normal hour?
I won't even try and decipher this code right now... I am tired and only stopped by to check the community boards.

In the morning, when everyone else sees this, it'll be a normal hour.
Thunderstorm woke me up. Or I just woke up and there happened to be one. Not sure which. I'm going back to sleep now. I have to go to work in the morning. I'll try and check in before I leave and during lunch.
Shoot me I'm probably a wolf. Especially if caberet is the Mod.
Shoot me I'm probably a wolf. Especially if caberet is the Mod.
So it looks like I'm cleared. That's cool! I guess I should try and stay out of majorities then. For now I'll put a safety on Randy.
Fear is only as deep as the mind allows!

I will put in a safety for Yuffie again, but that is obviously subject to change. I'm actually at school, and have a party afterwards... But I'll be back. ;)
I have returned and will lock in my customary vote for cab.

I'm at work but I wanted to check in - I promise to be helpful this round & work on the clue when I get a break ^_^
The Boss's memo... It has a few vowels so it can't just be the simple deletion of them but there aren't enough vowels to be pig latin, so I'm going to guess we'll have to use one of Braingle's decipher things =P
Safety on RGW4 (random selection based on first poster) for now, but I think we should start discussing a majority, so we can clear players along with the clearing clues.

Much like everyone else, I'm just checking in right now. I'll be back on my lunch to look at the clue, etc.
The Boss's statement almost looks like a cipher... I wonder if the whole thing is translatable? (Is that what you meant by 'code', RGW?)
Putting a temporary safety on Tuku again.
Edit to add: Oops, LOL. I left this page standing for so long while I was working, and forgot to refresh before posting, so I missed what Yuffie wrote. Ok, so the Boss's memo is a puzzle. Gee thanks, Boss. xP

Ok I've solved the top cipher as "Two down more to follow". That was relatively easy. The second, however, will take a little more work.
I guess what we need to do now is to try and imagine who in our list would be the budding cryptographer...

After a long look at the second I think I have it, it seems to make sense. (I hate whoever wrote it by the way as it's beastly).
"Well, I've never been on vacation in my dreams so I can't help you there but I would one day like to take my spouse overseas, maybe to Italy or Germany"

Great job, Skybet!
Between my Call List, I did a prelim Google search and found that Fred Rogers donated his red sweater (knitted by his mother) to the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History on November 20 (1984). But that's about all (I'm finding difficulty in the Force and Nature - the "and" makes me feel like they are two different things forming one idea (so not Force OF Nature / Force-A-Nature). I thought it was a movie title but apparently that's not so LOL I've also not gone through the players, to see if they'd have any connection with the Museum, but I thought I'd share what little I came up with
Edit: Ooh, you posted again - So, the Boss is married (therefore an adult) and most likely doesn't live in Europe, right? (Then again, I live in North America & I've never visited Canada, so being connected to a Country probably doesn't mean much, vacation-wise).
So... who's married? Most of you have played with each other before but I'm fairly new to this group, so instead I went by the Account info that I have: I know Elios and I (Yuffie) are single. Softball has the "teen" icon, so most likely she's single. (Single = not married LOL) and I believe GreenApples is fairly young (right?) ergo most likely single. Everyone else has the adult symbol (or it's not listed, but I believe the players to be adults) so their marital status is more debatable.
Not much to go on, but it's something ^_^

I see you have put me in a majority Yuffie, not a good idea seen as I am cleared. I will change my vote to you for now. Voting Yuffie.

I'm sorry? *goes back* Oh, I didn't know who "Randy" was, I didn't realize you had voted for RGW4 as well. I am fine with a majority on me, but I was honestly just safety voting so I wouldn't forget later and be a mandatory.
If we're going to use people's real names, can someone list them all so those who are unaware can be caught up? It gets confusing
EDIT - Voting list so far (for reference):
caberet
Elios - Tukuwakatiki
freakshow07 - Caberet
froggygg - Tukuwakatiki
GreenApples27 - Freakshow
J-Boy - Froggygg
Limerick
LogicalRoger - Tukuwakatiki
RGW4
Skybet - Freakshow07
tukuwakatiki
xxsoftballxx13x - Yuffie
Yuffie – Tukuwakatiki
Red = Unstated Vote
Green = majority

Good job with the cyphers guys!
I for one am not married. Heck, I'm not even dating anybody. I agree though its likely that the Boss is American based on the overseas bit.
Gotta get back to work but ill check back in later.
Shoot me I'm probably a wolf. Especially if caberet is the Mod.

Hahaha, sorry Yuffie I forget sometimes people don't know. In any case I'm in the mood to be random so o will switch my vote to froggygg

Jolly good job on the cryptography, Skybet. I tried a few myself but stopped after neither were easy to solve ones (by this site's automated ones). I would be hesitant about the spouse thing, however, as the answer is in the future tense and can therefore be a future spouse as well.
It seems that Stewie was fired which either means that he didn't vote and got fired for that or that it was really a MoO. I'm uncertain why Tuku didn't get fired along with Mocha but there's no harm in clearing someone. Thus, I'm going to put out a vote for Tuku thus creating a small majority that Elios will hopefully change if she feels likes not being in one. If there is a more plausible person to get a majority on, then I will change my vote.
No idea on the clue. Haven't looked too far into it. All I can see is that the first and the last seem to rhyme a bit.
Why didn't the Libertarian cross the road?

Sorry to see Stewie and Mocha gone.
I agree - good job on the cyphers, Skybet. After reading it over a few times, I have to agree with LR that it could be misleading as to whether the Boss is married or is referring to a future spouse...
As to the clearing clue, We all know who Mr. Rogers was. Good catch Yuffie on the red sweater donation to the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History on November 20. I also did a search on November 20th and found it is Universal Children's Day. This seems to go together with Mr. Rogers as well since his show was geared towards children.
As to Force AND Nature, I have no clue. I did a search and everything comes up "force OF nature" which lists a ton of son lyrics by different people.
I'm not sure who to vote for, but I am willing to join a small majority with LR and Elios and vote for Tuku. Confirmed my vote for Tuku
I'll check back later to see if anyone has solved the clearing clue and to change my vote if there is a good reason to do so.
SMILE and people will wonder what you are up to!

LR, I do see what you mean about the future-tense but I read it with the focus on someday travelling. It could be an unwed person who intentionally added it to appear married (with the technicality that they aren't lying since they are speaking in future tense) but due to the beginning of the sentence, it sounded like "I've never taken a vacation but one day I would like to treat my spouse and myself to a trip to Europe". I doubt there's much behind specifically mentioning Italy and Germany rather than the generic "Europe" but it could mean that this person lives in Europe. (ex: I am an American so I would say "I'd like to visit the Grand Canyon and Vegas" whereas someone in London might be more prone to grouping it together to say "I would like to visit America". But I think I'm reading too much into things (it's what happens when I get sleepy LOL).)
That being said, those who aren't American: GreenApples, J-Boy (cleared) & Skybet, so I think it's safe to say it is more likely that the boss is American than any other nationality =P
Still though, I think it would be fantastic to have a honeymoon in Japan but if someone asked me what country I'd like to visit, I would say "I'd like to go to Japan". I'm sure most people would like to take their children to Disney World but if they don't have any kids at the time, it would be weird to mention taking them... just my thoughts.
I'm still stuck on the clue. Mister Rogers and Nov 20th have the Red Sweater in the Museum in common (that was the day it was submitted) but what Rogers or the Museum have to do with "Force and Nature"... I'm just not sure how to proceed with looking for the answer. I'm sure there have been dozens of weather issues on that day and to link it to Mr Rogers... maybe I missed something when I read the general biography.... Or if the Museum is half the answer, maybe there's a connection with the museum to a natural disaster? Hm =/
I'm of the belief that the only true way to play this game is by creating majorities, so I will switch to Tuku to help clear her.
Edit for color - yay!

I'll vote freakshow for now. The idea of taking your spouse to somewhere seems male, and they say "one day" which means they don't necessarily need to have a spouse at the current time.
I'm thinking we have a male boss here to be honest.

Thanks for the hard deciphering work, Skybet! You chose the right avatar picture.
What GA says about a future spouse makes sense; I don't think we should rule out married folks, but it was probably a diversion tactic. The same could be said for the "taking" sounding male, though. I'm so horrible at gleaning gender from memos, so I'm going to try to remain neutral right now.
I'm fine with a majority on Tuku (or whomever we decide). We have to make some progress eventually, and that'll mean losing some players. If it's me, so be it.
Now, on the clue, do you think there's any significance behind it being all written in CAPITAL LETTERS...? Wonder if "FORCE AND NATURE" scrambles out to anything different. I'll go mess around with it.
Edit to add: Err, yeah.. no. There are something like 96k possible anagrams for FORCE AND NATURE (at least according to the site I was on). I scrolled through some but nothing useful.

Sorry, Froggygg! We didn't have a simul-post, but I didn't see yours at the time I wrote mine =P I believe I've correctly updated the list now.
If I'm the only one who believes the Future tense was meant only for the traveling and not the spouse, then I'll drop the married theory. I can see how "taking" one's spouse sounds masculine but what would you suppose a feminine response would be? "I would like to travel with my spouse overseas?"
Hmm... "Take my spouse overseas" - I'm not sure why I didn't notice the "overseas" bit before but that (to me) confirms the boss is American. As stated previously, most of the players are American so that doesn't do much but it does potentially clear Skybet, as travelling from England to Italy/Germany does not require the crossing of a sea (unless the comma implies a break in thought so "I'd like to go overseas or to Italy/Germany" but I think they are specific examples of an overseas-travel).
I'm glad I'm not the only one stuck on "FORCE AND NATURE". Now that things have quieted down at work, I'll try to do some more digging around & see what I find ^_^
Edit: Still not having much luck... I did find that Canadian soldier William George Barker wrote an address "The Forces of Nature" in which he mentioned acting as "Mr. Rogers's Substitute" but there's nothing of significance about Novemer 20th and I'm assuming that the spelling out of "Mister" implies the person in question is Fred Rogers, so that's a bust.... I guess I'll look at the museum angle again but I'm not finding a connection to any of the players =/
Edit again: Still no luck & now I have a migraine >.< The closest I've gotten is Washington, DC (The Museum and National Geographic's location). I know the connection between Nov 20 and Mr. Rogers is the Smithsonian but I cannot get the "force and nature" to fit, even with the assumption that it's a typo and is meant to be "Force of nature" - the Smithsonian hosts exhibits celebrating our American History, so I doubt any hurricanes etc would be listed anywhere. And as Froggygg mentioned earlier, there are way too many songs with the title "Force of Nature".
Anyone see something I'm missing? I'm just running around in circles =/

Well I've been doing some digging and I'm thinking maybe its zodiac related. Mr Rogers died of CANCER. FORCE is a group tying to fight CANCER. A company named zodiac pool systems has a product called nature2. Still not sure how nov 20 fits in, except that someone born on November 20, a Scorpio, gets along with a Cancer. Makes me wonder if we have any Cancers here. Lemme check.
Edit: RGW4 is a Cancer. Maybe it clears him???

Nice work deciphering the boss' memo! I don't think that we can deduce age, gender, marital status or even geographical location from the response. For example, there's Over the Sea to Skye - which is just a quick hop from the mainland to the Isle of Skye. No distance at all.
Safety for Limerick for now.

I'm very fond of Over the Sea to Skye. A nice little tune.
As for the clue, the capitalization was meant to make the third element harder to solve. I'll make it easier: FORCE AND NATURE should actually be Force and Nature.

I'm also a Cancer, but I removed my birthday a while ago when my icon changed! But I'm already pretty much cleared anyway due to mocha613's firing.
Sorry GA... one person voting for you fired does not and never should clear you... however, I doubt you are the boss because of the spouse overseas comment to Germany.
Yes, I am Cancer. Not 100% sure the clue was going that way.
I also have a spouse... and I can't say I wouldn't like to go to Germany or Italy, so I can not argue that this could not be me. However, we would have to go by boat, because my wife will not fly... and we sure would have to win the lottery for this to happen and be retired.
BTW, I felt it was a code, because a few years back I was part of a group that played Smeraldina's spy games. We used all the codes Braingle had to offer and more. It was a fun time. It sort of made me think one of these players could be reliving some great games... but then I thought it would be too obvious.
I am putting in a safety vote for Limerick for now.
Edit - confirmed vote on Limerick

The only way it wouldn't clear me is if mocha613 was my rat. And if that's so, then there's no reason to suspect me until it's down to 3 people left.
Mocha switched her vote from GA to RGW at the end of last round to form 2 majorities, so it doesn't clear you at all GA. :/
I have no idea abut the clue.
If it helps (though I guess I don't really need a defense since I'll be cleared by the end of this round...) I am not married. I have been on multiple vacations. I am from America but visit Europe often. And I am a Taurus...
EDIT: I forgot to say, I will vote for GA now.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
I am also a Taurus, but I think Shadows editing the clue into italics means that we're supposed to be looking for a book or song. I found a book titled: "Force and Nature: Attraction and Repulsion" written by Charles Frederick Winslow. Interesting fact: He was the second person to be cremated.
Uhm, the book itself was on something with science; atoms, it looks like. It was published in 1869.
I think I found the connection. Charles Winslow was a physician in Nantucket, MA, Mr. Rogers had a summer home there, and on November 20th of 1820, the story that inspired Moby Dick to be written took place near the island of Nantucket.
So I'm guessing it has something to do with Massachusetts?
EDIT: Of course, the direction I went in could quite possibly be completely wrong, but I got excited when I found that connection. But whatever. :p
Anyways, it seems as though the majority is currently on tuku? I will join it in the hopes of getting a solid clear.
And I forgot to say this earlier, but great job on deciphering the memo and such.

I totally missed her vote change, you're right tuku! My apologies!
Don't feel bad GA, I missed it too... and I read it shortly after she did it.
And to just clarify... even if she had voted for you, she may not be the rat, but the other person who stated a vote for you. The fact remains Stewie was fired, we don't know if he voted or was mandatory.
Mocha voted for me... Stewie could have also, making the majority on me... but you will not hear me calling out that I am cleared... just a couple variables that could make those firings questionable (but hint... I am not the boss and even if I did not say that, you should put me lower on the possible list as it is possible I had 3 people voting for me).
Also note that I stayed out of the tutu tuku tiki vote! (sorry tuku, I had to!)

RGW, Mocha and I voted for you, so it was a majority.

Tuku, I believe you... honest. However, even though I am the player getting a sort of nod of being cleared, as a player of this game, I have seen where a vote of two did not happen. Mocha said she changed her vote to me, but she could have forgotten. Now, I am not being argumentive, nor do I wish another round of votes on me, because it is useless... but too often the single/double vote on someone with only one person fired who disclosed their vote means the boss walks away with a win. I am neither the boss or the rat (hence why I say a another vote on me is not needed)... but for those who may not play very often - there are things that happen that others take for granted. It's why I always try and come back and say my vote is confirmed. I looked at the voting page and see my vote was captured. I too have been guilty of stating a vote, but not confirming. Ask yourself, what if Mocha forgot to change from GA? GA is cleared, but I get the credit... just be a bit leary... its how you become a good player.
I suspect the round is now over, so we wait... hopefully until morning and not another night wasted while we sleep. I normally do not go to bed until about midnight PST... but once I get up, I seldom have time for the game until I return. Luckily, tomorrow is a super light day, so I might be around. tomorrow will probably be a full day of waiting for the next round.
Edit... and Shadows... thanks for the clue. It doesn't seem to help me right now... I guess someone is from Mass... I guess I should look closer.

Great job guys! I guess I was being too literal or simplistic with the clue but at least I wound up at a location (albeit the wrong one )
I just checked and the American players are in California, Georgia, Texas and then "unstated"; no one has Massachusetts listed as their place of residency, so I guess we have to do more digging? I'll be back if I can figure anything out ^_^;;

GreenApples27 lives in New Zealand (according to his Braingle account), so it would be a travel overseas to get to Italy or Germany. And as others have said, since the comment is in Future-tense, we can't look too closely at the 'spouse' comment.

Sorry GA... one person voting for you fired does not and never should clear you... however, I doubt you are the boss because of the spouse overseas comment to Germany.

Excellent clue work, Softball! I wonder why that book title didn't come up when I searched the words in Google. It kept changing my search to "of".
I think the clue clears Limerick. Y'know, the whole "There once was a man from Nantucket (MA)...". Just my guess. (Which may be moot if he didn't vote.....)

That sounds like the most plausible explanation, Elios. I've been on everyone's pages, and nobody directly states they're from Massachusetts, so...
Great job on the clearing clues!
And now we wait...
