Chapter 5
Darkness. A muffled ringing sound. Percival struggled to climb out of the debris. As he looked around, struggling to focus through the blur, his heart sank. It was the nightmare all over again. He struggled to balance, and make his way towards safety. He felt his hearing begin to return...
"Percy! Hurry up!"
Horace's voice snapped Percival back to the present, and he found himself running up the stairs leading to the upper deck, right behind Horace and several other irregulars. Only a handful of the Spanish soldiers and sailors stood in their path, seeming almost as dazed by the explosions that rocked the ship as Percival was moments ago.
"Mutiny!"
The first mate's voice was barely audible in the din, but the alarm bell he had begun to ring was noticeably louder, and seemed to rally the few crew members on the upper deck. But still, no reinforcements were coming. Percival hesitated and nearly stopped as he saw Horace and others begin to cut down the Spanish, though many were simply wounded, not killed. One of the sailors charged at Percival. In a panic, Percival raised his weapon, blocking the attack, if barely. Percival fell to the deck, as the sailor prepared another blow. Moments later, he collapsed as he was stuck in the back of the head by the guard of Horace's sword.
"Hurry, Percy! To Salvador's cabin!"
Percy gulped as he looked around, seeing both the moaning and silent bodies of sailor and irregular alike. But he couldn't stop now. Hurrying to his feet, he ran towards the Captain's cabin, Horace just a few steps ahead.
- - - - -
Carlos observed the chaos from a safe vantage point. The explosions were well placed, trapping many of the ship's crew in the lower decks for now. The irregulars did their job well. Stepping over the moaning body of one of the sailers, Carlos made his approach. The timing had to be just right...
- - - - -
Sam was the first to arrive at the entrance to the Captain's cabin. He prepared to break down the door, only for the door to creak open slightly on its own. He paused a moment to wonder why, before finding himself nearly pushed inside by the others. The cabin seemed to be empty. The mutineers fell silent as they looked around. Where was the Captain? A painful moan answered the question, and Horace and Sam shot towards the door to the Captain's birth, Percival barely keeping up behind.
The grizzled, pale man who lay on the small bed looked like a complete stranger.
"Your time has come, Cap'n!"
Horace gave a start as Sam ran towards the bed, sword raised to strike. Salvador seemed barely awake, and struggled to raise an arm to his own defense.
"Stop this madness! The Capitan is..."
The shipmaster's surprise entry was interrupted as he was bowled over from behind by one of the sailors, whom Percival recognized as a guard from the lower decks. Sam drew back from Salvador's bed in surprise, only to be more surprised when Horace grabbed him by his arm.
"Wait. Something's not right."
- - - - -
"Aye, he's still got a bit t' learn about the sea, but he'll be a right fine sailor in no time, Sal!"
Captain Salvador chuckled as he sized up the grubby English boy who stood at Joe's side. He looked Percival straight in the eye.
"What draws you to the sea, lad?"
Percival's shoulders sank. "I'm not certain. Last time it was a cannonball."
Salvador laughed. "Well, good to know you have some wit even after all Joe says you've been through."
Percival stared uncomfortably at the clean-shaven and opulently dressed Spanish Captain as the tall man approached. Finally, Percival looked down to the ground in shame.
"The truth is, Captain sir..." Percival paused as he gathered his thoughts.
"Yes... go on, boy." Salvador encouraged.
"The sea... terrifies me." Percival let out a deep breath.
"Indeed." Salvador remarked. "And yet, you must face it, mustn't you? Will you tell me why?"
"It's all right, lad." Joe nudged Percival, who finally looked up towards Salvador.
"It's my father. I don't know if he survived, but I must try to find him."
Salvador paused. "I am sorry about your father. I can't promise that you will find him, but I will help you conquer the sea."
- - - - -
"Please don't hurt him..." The shipmaster nearly seemed to beg.
"But I've come too far." Horace gulped as he slowly approached Salvador, who struggled to sit up.
"Horace, I am so sorry..." Salvador's speech was interrupted by a coughing fit.
"You should be!" Horace shouted back, as he began to sweat, slowly raising his sword. His hands shook. "You... betrayed us all! Brought us aboard as friends, almost like sons! And look what has happened to us!"
Salvador struggled to reply, only to collapse into his bed, coughing once more. The shipmaster shot to his feet, and began to run towards the Captain's berth, only to be tackled down by Sam.
"I've got him, Horace!" Sam shouted, as he gestured with his eyes towards Percival. "Stop the guard!"
Percival ran to face the guard who had followed the shipmaster, but the sailor made no effort to stand up, eying Percival's sword anxiously.
"I won't hurt you, lad." The sailor struggled to speak. "Just don't hurt the Captain."
Hurrying away from the sailor despite Sam's protests, Percival ran towards Salvador's berth, shouting to Horace.
"Stop, Horace! Think about this!"
"I can't stop now!" Horace shouted back. "He has to die!"
"He's not your enemy!" The shipmaster's took the words out of Percival's mouth. "Please, listen to me!"
"Too late, Diego." Carlos' words were accented by a gunshot. José collapsed to the deck silently. Carlos glanced at José's body, as he readied his pistol for another shot.
"Another tragic victim of those treacherous mutineers."
"No!" Diego screamed, as he struggled to escape Sam's hold. Sam gulped as he sized up the situation, releasing the ship master, who began to draw his own pistol as Carlos turned to meet him. Carlos pulled the trigger just as Sam jumped between the two officers. Diego screamed in anger as Sam collapsed to the ground, leveling his pistol at the First Mate.
"It has been a good day for betrayal, hasn't it, Diego?" Carlos raised his pistol at the shipmaster. Diego hesitated, his hands shaking.
The shot barely missed Diego, as Percival's sword glanced off the First Mate's pistol. Carlos shouted in surprise as he whirled around Percival's follow through, kicking him to the ground. Percival's sword flew out of his hand. He felt a heavy boot hold him down, as Carlos took aim. The First Mate glanced toward the berth, as Horace stared in shock, unable to move.
"Last chance to do what you came for, rat." Carlos taunted. "After your weak little friend and my traitorous shipmaster..."
"Leave Percy alone!" Horace roared as he charged towards Carlos, who leveled his pistol in response, still pinning Percival to the ground with his foot.
Diego's gun finally fired, the bullet striking the First Mate's pistol. Carlos shouted in anger, drawing his sword. Diego threw down his pistol, and drew his sword in reply, approaching Carlos slowly as Horace nervously joined the Shipmaster. Carlos drew back, releasing Percival as he sized up the situation. Percival began to crawl away as the First Mate charged towards Diego and Horace.
"Run, Percival! We've got this!" Horace shouted after his friend. Percival ran out of the cabin, only to be met by one of the sailors.
"Die, mutineer!"
In panic, Percival barely dodged the blows, saving his own life, but losing his balance. Moments later, he found himself tripping over the railing, falling into the sea.
All went dark.

like the famous battle between hercules and the hydra, these individuals' stories have faded and been added to the monopoly of ancient history, both fact and fiction. I strive in patience, and choose my victims wisely.
Vote: The_Spider
Either he be captain or he be framed, but there be no coincidence here. Waiting in patience for a victim be what a spider does. Now, he did say he could stare at a map for hours, but there be a difference between staring at a map and reading it, and between a chart of the world and a chart for finding directions.
Secondary (but far less likely) possibilities include KBColdfire, whose occupation reads "ninja", and zonahobo, who apparently sees fit to be a fisherman rather than a geniune pirate.
Well, guamgirl2 has certainly been cleared by the psych question. Who all else loves the legacy of our good Captain Jack? I would especially like to hear the opinion of RGW4, whose avatar seems to be wearing buccaneer headgear of some pedigree.

Doom Son of Loki shows one of his many trickster faces. Tell me Lokison, what do you have up your sleeve? --HarriDansker
So, I have no clues...
I wish I could sleep... but my mind starts to wander, and well, basically, one sheep, two sheep, cow, turtle, duck, Ol McDonald had a farm... HEEEY Macarena!!!

There be more to the first sentence of the memo than meets one's good eye. It be obviously referring to Hydra's heave-ho. Our captain has left us here some clue; the sentence structure be rather awkward. Who here would refer to himself as Hercules? A rival of Hydra's perhaps, or a student of Greek mythology? And be the word "monopoly" part of the puzzle? What think ye all?
Edit: Never ye mind; "monopoly" and "faded" were but referring to fired players. Sometimes I be slow to figure things out. Also, I be absolutely seasick of saying "be" instead of "is".
Another edit: Fishmed wasn't fired, so he must have voted without telling us. Plus, the one person who voted for him (kzmonopoly) was promptly fired. Consider him #2 on me list of suspects.

I think the memo be codswallop. Ye cannot trust the rantings of a dirty traitor.
fishmed either voted without posting or just didn't vote (meaning rat or boss)
He'd be a good clear for this round.
It's a disease, not a punch line

Doom, there is not requirement for 'accuracy' in the memo (as opposed to the pysch) so the admittedly 'spider-like' wording of the memo you bolded, really has no connection to me. I brought up the map thing just as a innocent comment not as an attempt to exonerate myself, maps are awesome.
That being said, I think I will join the Fish vote atm, but subject to change

Well most of us have developed way beyond using login times in these games, 'rat' predictions are thrown about all the time on the slimmest of pretexts, so have it at

I will not rule out that he voted shortly after the round started and just did not post anything. Aye, there be a lot of ideas a floating around.
Doom, my avatar is of my oldest grandson playing in a pirate ship pool we had a few years back. I changed my avatar when I was the mod of a game and radio first said he was going to bring the pirate theme back into a game. Sort of hard to predict I be the boss before sign-ups ever start. It be my way of showing participation!
I have no idea where to go, for now a safety vote for Snowy.

Because it's been awhile since the last voting list was update and many more people have joined in since then...here's a more recent voting list:

We've got 3 on Aviator (me ), that seems to be the only majority.

I also have an idea about the boss saying they wouldn't add anything about pirate to his 'list of favorites'. That could just mean none of them would be on their 'list of favorites' meaning overall.
About fish. Last round he either he voted without saying last round or is rat/boss. This round he also barely said anything this round. Given how the boss is acting, it really does not sound like he's boss unless that's the plan. As for rat, not sure.
Another thing I noticed, both rounds, rolugomi posted first and started a vote. Also, both rounds that vote is getting the majority. Possible boss/rat controlling votes? Also he has stated that fish is not boss but maybe rat. Anyway, my vote is for him right now.

braingle, I can't help that i'm influential
in all seriousness though, I noted that fishmed didn't vote (or at least, didn't state a vote) last round, and wondered if they were active. They had not been, and so it seems unlikely to me that they are the boss. However, since they were not fired from inactivity, it seems they are rat. I know login activity is speculative and doesn't mean much and shouldnt be relied on, but that's how i see it now.
I dont think spider or harry are the boss. and probably not aviator either since he's been kind enough to offer up a voting list. that said, cant be certain about anything and will keep vote on aviator for now, unless we find another majority to go with
Just love each other

As for my vote, I be puttn in a safety vote for Bo (Zona for those that don't know him as Bo)
I don't have any favorite pirate books, but I do enjoy all the Pirates of the Caribbean movies with Johhny Depp. Love that hair and the comedy mix!

Chapter 6
The creaking. The gentle swaying. For a moment as he struggled to open his eyes, Percival thought he was still on the ship. But the smell was wrong. Just clear ocean, and... feet? Percival struggled to sit up, and the small lifeboat began to lurch violently.
"Not so fast, Percy! You'll throw us right back into the drink we pulled ye outta!"
Percival allowed himself to be helped into a sitting position. "Sorry, Gaius."
Gaius smirked. "Don't ye worry, city boy. Not gonna let ye drown." A few of the others in the small boat chuckled.
"Where are we?" Percival inquired.
"Stickin' to the plan, o' course." Gaius replied. "This was Horace's idea all along."
"But the..." Percy began.
"Mutiny?" Gaius prompted. "Aye, that was mostly Sam's idea. But I agreed with 'im that just escapin' wasn't enough, and we had to teach ol' Salvador a lesson."
Others chorused in agreement. Percival glanced about the small boat. Including himself, there were nine in all.
"But, Horace..."
"Aye, and the others who couldn't make it." Gaius interrupted with a hint of regret in his voice. "They knew the risk of fightin'."
"But wasn't it also your idea to mutiny?" Percival shot back. Gaius chuckled.
"Aye, and I did me part. Trapped the sailors in the lower decks with them explosions, and released the lifeboats. Everyone knew their job, and we did our best."
Percival slumped back, deep in thought. He glanced about the boat.
"No food, nine of us," Percival mused. "Where are we going?"
"Glad ye asked." Gaius replied. "We've been trackin' our course with the aid of some maps we pinched. We planned the whole thing to happen close to some islands not far from here. A good place to hide out and rest until some ship finds us."

"Yer never gonna get away with this, First Mate."
"You're going to call me 'Captain' just before you hang, vermin." Carlos snarled back at Horace as he followed behind the guard escorting the irregular through the lower decks.
"Maybe I'll write it on yer tombstone." Horace grumbled.
"Hold your tongue!" Carlos shouted, before groaning as he bumped his bandaged arm against a bulkhead. Horace began to laugh, before the guard roughly yanked the chain his arms were bound in.
"Guess ye don't come down this way often, eh? Most Cap'ns I've heard of know their way around ships."
"That's enough! I'd run you through now, but I'm going to make an example out of you after I round up the rest of your friends still on board!"
"Not if ye keep crashin' into bulkheads like that." Horace retorted.
"I've had enough of this." Carlos grumbled, motioning to the guard. "Just take that wretch to the brig. I have more important things to do.
"Aye, sir."
"Captain!" Carlos snapped. The guard shrugged, and gave no other response as he continued prodding Horace along. All too soon, the iron door closed behind him, and he was alone, rubbing his arms. The circulation began to return, and Horace began to relax as he examined his cell in the brig. He began to pull on the bars, testing their strength.
"You'll never get out that way, Horace." A familiar voice mumbled. Horace smiled.
"Ah! Good to hear from ye, shipmaster."
Horace squinted as he stared through the dimly lit room. The former shipmaster sat on a small bench a few cells, away, barely visible in the fading torch light.
"Well, what next?" Horace thought aloud. The Spaniard sighed in response.
"For you? Yardarm if you're lucky. If I'm lucky, I'll drown before we reach Spain."
"We can't let that blackguard get away with this!" Horace grumbled. "It was him all along."
The former shipmaster nodded sadly. "I was too much a coward to stop him, and the Capitan suffered for it."
"At least yer handy with a sword in a pinch."
The Spaniard managed a slight chuckle. "Not good enough."
"But I gotta know something."
"Yes?"
Horace took a deep breath. "Why not just shoot 'im?"
The former shipmaster paused. "I wanted to take him prisoner. Make him stand trial."
"Did it work?" Horace jabbed. The Spaniard laughed in response.
"Not this time," he replied. "Oh, and please call me Diego."
- - - - -
"We have to go back."
Gaius stared at Percival. "That's crazy talk!"
"We left Horace behind!" Percival shouted in response.
"Aye, and that was the risk he took. And from what I heard ye babbling after we pulled you in, I suppose ye wouldn't be alive without Horace right now."
Percival sighed. "He spared Salvador just to protect me."
"He was a good friend." Gaius sighed.
"Do you think he's... dead?" Percival inquired.
"Most likely." Gaius shrugged. "If not now, soon. I suppose if he's been captured, they'll make an example outta him, and anyone else they find."

"So, now what, Captain?" The cook's voice bore a tone of resentment. Carlos snarled.
"The mutiny went as well as I could have hoped, and yet..."
"Ye failed!" The cook shouted. "Most of them rats got away, and Salvador still lives."
"Aye, and now there's no one left to take care of him for me." Carlos idly dipped a finger in the pot of stew the cook was preparing. He tasted it, spitting it out almost instantly. In frustration, Carlos turned to leave.
"What you doing now, lad?" The cook inquired.
"I'm going to make sure the other mutineers are captured." Carlos snapped back.
"And the Cap'n?"
Carlos slammed the door to the galley without answering the question. Finally, he murmured under his breath.
"I'll deal with him myself, if I have to."
- - - - -
"Do you suppose Salvador is all right, Diego?"
Diego sighed. "Aye, for now. No thanks to you, Horace."
Horace let out a loud sigh. "I get it already! I'm sorry I tried to kill him!"
"I know." Diego mumbled.
"Enough talking, you two rats!" The door flew open as a guard entered the brig. He carried a small tray of food, along with a small sack and a canteen. He threw the sack at Horace as he passed his cell, and a few stale buns rolled out.
"Enjoy it, cur." The guard mumbled. "More than ye deserve, attacking the Capitan."
The guard did not say a word as he approached Diego's cell, and the former shipmaster responded in like silence as he took the tray handed to him, along with the canteen. Diego took a few sips from the canteen as the guard turned to leave, then tossed it towards Horace's cell as the door slammed shut behind the guard.
"You need to keep your strength up, boy."
"Thanks." Horace mumbled in reply, before returning his focus to his meal.
The two ate in near silence. The dim moonlight through the small windows in the brig flickered as storm clouds began to gather outside. As Diego finished his meal, he picked up a small napkin from the platter to wipe his face. He noticed something on the worn cloth that startled him. He held it up to the dim torchlight, making out a few words.
"Some of us stand with you, Shipmaster. Be prepared. We will save our Capitan."

We got some real swashbucklers aboard this ship.
I can only surmise that there is a mutiny afoot and the boss is:
1) potentially a high rank in her majesty's navy (let's say a big towner with big dreams)
2) maybe has decent taste in movies/shows
3) a fan of the arts or mythology
These 3 points don't point to an aviator to me. An aviator is someone who can navigate, who enjoys the occasional pirate flick which is all about navigating sullen waters.
So I am moving my vote off of Aviator. I will vote for Spider. I bet he's sipping on a glass of wine right now mulling over the latest fine Jazz of Van Morrison.

The mutiny is gaining momentum...
I liked Errol Flynn better as a pirate.. Against all Flags, Captain Blood, and The Sea Hawk are well worth watching. At least all the pirates are real people until they are killed.

Congrats Guam!!!!!
Take all sorrow out of life and you take away all richness, and depth, and tenderness. The capacity of sorrow belongs to our grandeur. It is the furnace that melts hearts together in love.

All we can tell about our wretched villain is that they don't like pirate movies and at least knows a little bit about mythology. That doesn't seem to rule out a large boatload of us.
Sticking with my vote and waiting to see how the plank walkings this round play out.

Switching to Aviator in case we can get a majority.
Edit: We got no majority here. Well, rats.
*waves ahoy to froggygg, rolugomi, fishmed, HarryPutter, and the usual 558 guests*
So then, about fishmed:
His behavior be very odd. He seems, in fact, to be completely ignoring the discussion, or at least pretending to do so. Here lies the question: Be he malevolent or simply apathetic? I tend to support yon conclusion that he sees his own input as of lesser worth than his time, and thus shows himself only when he receives a notification that the round has begun. Of course, we have no way of knowing he be no audacious Boss trusting his lack of activity to save him. Or, granted more likely, he may be a clever Rat doing his best to draw suspicion. What think ye all who be more experienced than I?

Doom Son of Loki shows one of his many trickster faces. Tell me Lokison, what do you have up your sleeve? --HarriDansker

Fishmed is either playing very selfishly, voting without telling us, or is not voting and is still here.
I think the latter is more likely, and so the question is whether rat or boss. I think rat> he has to know that he's drawing suspicion to himself, and boss wouldn't do that. Rat wouldn't mind. Still not the best strategy, but I'm guessing that last round he didn't have time, and since this round he knows we're onto him, the best thing he can do is stay quiet.
Also, voting list is updated to reflect final votes as stated, so we'll see what happens next round.
Just love each other

Aye, that could be true...but me thinks it be merely coincidence...if Fish be Boss me thinks he would not be so careless...
Votin's over, we 'ave failed to clear anyone...me hopes th' Boss will clear someone through their firing...
I want to be so full of Christ that when a mosquito bites me, he flies away singing "there's power in the blood!"

Hey, if you want, I made a couple quizzes years ago on Pirates. My favorite book on Pirates is Blackbeard and other Pirates of the Atlantic Coast by Nancy Roberts. Very informative. Just a thought.
Take all sorrow out of life and you take away all richness, and depth, and tenderness. The capacity of sorrow belongs to our grandeur. It is the furnace that melts hearts together in love.
