Chapter 10
"You wouldn't dare pull that trigger." Carlos growled, slowly turning around to face his assailant. The sailor's hands shook as he gripped the pistol tightly.
"Stand down!" Carlos screeched. In a panic, the sailor pulled the trigger. Nothing happened. Carlos laughed as he batted the pistol out of the sailor's hands, and it flew into the sea.
"For the Capitan!" The sailor shouted as he tackled the First Mate. The two grappled for a few moments as their lifeboat lurched violently. Percival found himself thrown against one side of the boat and the other, then rolling helplessly from bow to stern, bowling over the two combatants. The sailor fell flat against the deck, and Carlos fell overboard. The First Mate quickly swam back to the boat, and was struggling to climb back into the boat when he froze, the tip of a sword just a few inches from his face. The sailor stared down at Carlos, his hands no longer shaking. Tense seconds that felt like minutes passed as sailor and soldier on every lifeboat began drawing their weapons, some pointed at Carlos, other pointed at each other. A few were pointed at chained prisoners on the boats.
Carlos spat out a mouthful of seawater. "What now?"
- - - - -
"This is mutiny!"
"Release us, and Carlos might be merciful."
"Why are you defending Salvador? That old weakling has ruined this ship!"
That last jeering remark from the imprisoned soldiers pushed the guard to his limit. Unlocking the heavy steel door to the brig, he stormed inside, pointing his musket at the nearest prisoner.
"Carlos and the rest of his mutineers will be brought to justice. You might not make it that long if you can't keep quiet."
"Who's going to silence us, you?" The prisoner sneered.
"Try me." The guard raised his weapon, and prepared to fire as the prisoner instinctively took a defensive position. A metallic thud was heard, and the guard collapsed to the deck, unconscious. The cook stood over him, chuckling as he frisked the fallen guard, withdrawing his keys. He turned to face the guards.
"Who's ready to take this ship back?"
- - - - -
"That's enough! Lower your weapons!" Diego shouted down from the ship. Slowly, some of the soldiers and sailors obeyed. Others stared up at Diego in suspicion.
"What would you have us do, Shipmaster?"
"Surrender Carlos, and lay down your weapons. I will bring up your boats, and treat you kindly. We don't need to be enemies. We are all loyal to Spain, and to our Capitan."
Several in the boats talked amongst themselves, then nodded in agreement as they dropped their weapons into their boats, then held their hands up. A few held onto their weapons, and pointed them at Carlos as he slowly climbed back into his boat. The First Mate took a seat next to Percival. In a flash, he grabbed the chained irregular, and threw him into the sea!
"Diego said nothing about those who aren't loyal to Spain." Carlos laughed as Horace shouted down in anger from the ship above. Percival screamed for help as he struggled against his binds. In a flash, Carlos was clubbed in the face with a musket, and collapsed unconscious as another sailor dove into the sea to rescue Percival.
"You're safe, lad." The sailor mumbled as he dragged Percival back onto the boat, and grabbed the keys off Carlos' belt. As he began to free Percival, ropes were lowered from the ship above. As the boats were slowly tied and raised out of the sea, the other prisoners were likewise freed and allowed to climb aboard first.
"Welcome aboard, friends." Diego greeted irregular and crewman alike. Carlos was one of the last to board, moaning angrily as he slowly regained consciousness. The disgraced First Mate was bound in chains. He stared Diego coldly.
"This isn't over yet, traitor."
- - - - -
"I really need something to drink. Think you two can handle this for a few minutes?"
One of the irregulars stared wide-eyed. "Really? You trust us to guard the armory alone?"
The soldier sighed. "Not entirely, on account of your mutiny earlier." One of the irregulars flinched as the guard smirked. "But if the Shipmaster trusts you, I think I can manage it for a few minutes."
"Thank ye kindly." The other irregular replied. "Don't be too long, and stay away from the soup!"
"You don't have to tell me twice."
The irregulars laughed as the guard made his way down the dim corridors. The two sat in silence. One started fidgeting, and pacing about. Finally, he looked at the door leading into the armory.
"What else do ye suppose they've got in there?"
The other irregular shrugged. "Guns and swords, I imagine." A glint of mischief came to his eye. "But I suppose there's only one way to find out!"
The two began to chuckle and look about nervously as they approached the door, one withdrawing the key the guard left behind. Just as they were about to turn the key in the lock, the guard's voice startled them.
"The cook has escaped! We have to warn the Shipmaster!"
Before the two irregulars could snap back to attention and fumble an excuse for their curiosity, gunshots rang out. The irregulars collapsed silently, and the guard fell to the deck, moaning in pain.
"Get what ye need, but don't take too long." The cook growled as the soldiers who accompanied him made their way into the armory.
"Your time has come, Diego." The cook muttered gleefully.

As Salvador's senses returned, he was overwhelmed by the smells in his berth. It had only been a few months of forced confinement, but it smelled worse. The Captain struggled to a sitting position, then after a few moments of hesitation, allowed his weight to shift onto his legs as he attempted to stand. To his relief, he did not topple over. At least, not right away, as he found himself reaching for something to grab onto after a few steps. The storm clouds outside did little for the lighting in his berth, and he struggled in the dim light of the single lantern Carlos had left on the table to find some clothes. As he slowly donned a coat and some trousers, he felt his balance and strength begin to return.
The sounds of commotion outside startled the Captain.
"What have you done, Carlos?" Salvador muttered as he searched his cabin for some weapons.
"Please don't make me do this." Salvador whispered as he made his way to the door.

Okay! I think bfft is officially clear (the crowd goes wild) due to the firings. So we have three who are clear (Aviator, Celt, and Bfft) and five who are not. (Harry Putter, KBColdfire, RGW4, Snow, and Braingle)
I'll be putting a safety on Braingle for now. But unless you absolutely need my vote, I'll b stayin' away from any here majorities!

My logic tells me that the boss is either KB or Braingle. Harry has been very helpful in pointing out voting errors, Snow could be even though she did two pirate quizzes but I would tend to set that aside for now, and I know I am not I have watched a lot of pirate movies and I am very good at reading maps.
Braingle, I would never shorten your name short of to this, especially not one of clothes!
For now, my vote is for KB.
Edit - Vote confirmed.

Actually I think it must be KBC at this point, even that psych answer sounds just like him I am locking my vote in for KBC

So the boss is a bit compassionate.
Placing a vote on HP - to me, it's between HP, Braingle and KBColdfire
Could be wrong though - keeping an eye on Randy.
Take all sorrow out of life and you take away all richness, and depth, and tenderness. The capacity of sorrow belongs to our grandeur. It is the furnace that melts hearts together in love.

I have to admit the past few memos and psyche answers have sounded like me...I would rather maroon someone on an island than hang them. I have a problem with killing things, even bugs...
I would choose a warship over whatever the other choice was, and I don't really have any pirate books or movies that are my favorites...
I can't read maps but I loves the stars...I could point out Orion, Draco, Ursa Major, and Hydra to you...
But if ya'll want to clear me that's fine, I just don't want be the cause of miss placed votes...
Placing a vote on Braingle...
I want to be so full of Christ that when a mosquito bites me, he flies away singing "there's power in the blood!"

I'm also in the camp that it's either KB or HP. I'm certainly leaning towards it being KB, but we have almost two days before we need to pick.
Locking in one for KB as of now.

Putting a safety on Aviator for now, will change if no majorities arise

Right now we have 3 votes on KB. I feel 99% certain that KB is the boss.

I'm going to join vote for KB.
They were starting to get the majority before it got changed to bfft, and then we wasted another round going after bfft who is evidently, not boss. I started on bfft and KB is the first person to agree with me. At that point there were 2 votes on her, and if I were her and boss I'd have agreed to get the vote off.
If it's not then I have a feeling it's HP.

I believe 4/7 is rat proof! But please, correct me of I'm wrong.
If this round ends, and KB wasn't boss, then I'm also pretty sure that it's HarryPutter.

Actually braingle, I agreed with you because what you said made sense...I would've had no problem with ya'll clearing me earlier and I still don't now...just throw'n that out there...

I wonder if you sound like a caught boss or an employee who wants to be cleared. Guess we'll have to go ahead clearing you to find out.
We still have like 3 or 4 rounds to go I think? We have 5 uncleared people. If the boss fires one uncleared player and you're cleared this round then we'd have 3 uncleared people left. So, even if the boss fires the cleared people, we'd have the rounds to clear all the uncleared people. Right?

However, we seem to have a cleared player voting for KB so any cleared players will probably be the first to go. I am not against cleared players starting to be part of the process now, but it needs to be more of a sure thing than a hit and miss as it is in earlier rounds.

I am pretty confident though, there are just too many similarities for it not to be KBC. Even the memo used "something tells me"; which is only something I've found KBC has said.

The Boss said 'something tells me this party will soon be over'...I wonder what they mean? Perhaps they feel it's inevitable that they'll be caught, or they know that they have everyone fooled...it could mean either...
Edit: I guess I did say that...

No worries KBC, it's hard to control common turns of phrase. But yeah I've found you're the only person who has used it at least twice previously.u

I sometimes double guess myself this late in the game, but feel pretty good about my KB vote.
If it turns out KB is not the boss, I would consider Braingle before Harry. 3 cleared, and yes for me, I am clear. Snowy seems clear due to the quizzes.
