The Werewolf Game
Game #2785: Return of masoni88- Witch Hunt I
This private game is moderated by masoni88. Please read the rules and contact the moderator with any questions or concerns about this game.
This game finished in 9 rounds.
Thanks GreenApples! Welcome to the first round. Though the seer is bad, and you may want to abstain from voting to prevent a divination; please do not do so, as I will provide the Witch with an opportunity for divination in the talkbox if you do. You may at any point reveal your role's ability to the group or your talkbox but be warned, it may not work to your advantage. Perhaps you have a strategy though. Oh, and don't vote ICUB42 simply because of her sometimes unbelievable powers That goes for you too cult members!
As a side note, I will not PM any role details to council members, as their roles are solely with City Council. And if you do not receive a PM, do not worry, your role is simply worked in with the story, and does not have any special powers in particular. If you are curious still, and you absolutely must, feel free to PM me tomorrow and I will tell you. Just not tonight. I'm too tired, and sending roles is enough work as it is. So much easier to reply...
Story
It is a cold, dark night, and the wind howls out of control. Your small village of only 50 has fallen quickly to only 21 people. The abrupt decline has been brought on by the presence of a Witch, and all the remaining villagers actively hunt for this murderer. As you search through the dark of the night for clues as to the Witch's whereabouts, you hear a scream pierce the air. You run as fast as you can in hopes of saving a life, but the villager is already dead, and the murderer nowhere to be seen. You see four sets of footprints, other than your dead friend, and know instantly that the Witch has drawn followers, devoted to killing or converting the heathens of the town. You stare in shock and disbelief, and a loud cackle erupts from the crowd of now 20 people, and you know the Witch and the followers are in your midst. For every four people, there is one traitor. You think... Who will you trust? Who can you trust? A raven emerged from the thick foliage around and dug its talons into the dead flesh. No one you can trust... Or can you? Only time, your wits, and cunning will tell.

I'm just brushing up on the rules of this game, so I'll get to doing that now!

From what I've seen of these games, SPV is frowned upon? So I guess I'll check back tommorow
SPV is frowned upon? Then I'm in trouble; I picked somebody at random. (Sorry, silverleaf)
I promise to (try to) change my vote to something more worthwhile before round's end.

I'm excited this game sounds like tons of fun. And hurray! the one time my not voting in the first round thing comes in handy!
I had to laugh at jubu's comment, having been in a couple of game with him now and knowing his reluctance to vote in the first round, but we still do need to vote, and hope we get the evil witch (seer) or one of the cult members (wolves) to get clues to the identity of one of the others It's been a while since I played in one of these games, but I think that's how it works. I hope masoni gives us a better explanation when he logs on with the story, so I'll check back later.

I've played in one or two of these Witch Hunt games before, so I semi-rememebr what the rules are, but I guess once masoni posts it'll be much more clear!
Oh yeah Almost forgot about that seer rule. No probs I guess.
May as well randomly vote anyway so... Smithy gets my vote

Okay, everything is done. Story is posted. Remember to look for clues in anything I say, though maybe not this post (or maybe I'm trying to throw you off so you won't get it). The clues will get easier or harder or stay the same depending on how close you get. Good luck in the coming rounds to both the Witch and Cult as well as the Villagers. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Once you are dead, if you want to know the hidden clues, PM me. Ask and you shall receive. I will also post the clues at the end of the game if people want me to. Coming up with new ways to trick people is the best part of moderating, especially Witch Hunt games. Putting white text throughout the story as a trick is so over-rated.
Thanks for joining, everyone. Have fun (insert evil laugh here)
Did I trick you with the white text?
EDIT: I will not let you know if you get the clues right or wrong, but I might have other clues in later posts to tell you if you're right or wrong. So look out for that. And if you get a clue or hint, don't spoil it for everyone else right away. Let other people search for my tricks and have a laugh if I mislead them or enjoy the challenge. If you receive a clue, however, feel free to work together.

I don't remember the rules so well, so forgive me if this is a stupid question... is the Witch the Seer?
I'm not going to be on a lot today, as I have to go out of town for an app. so I will SPV vote this round for Bradon. . . . Will change if a majority forms on her, as this is not my intention . . . . just an SPV vote.

We all have a special place for Smithy in our hearts, but he seems to have fallen off the face of the Earth this week, 6 days inactive. I'm not going to place a vote, but he seems like a decent shot for round 1, unless he swoops in heroically. Not sure if there are other inactives but Smithy, as always, caught me eye
Ok so from what I can tell this game is pretty hard for the humans. It seems we have to get either the four supporters or get all 5 of the witch people(not sure what to call them ). That seems pretty tough, and while I know I'm normally adamant about the first round, I have always believed that inactives should be voted off. So I'm going to vote for Smithy and if he comes back, I'll find someone else.
'
'
Ah I see the round started at an odd hour for me, as per usual!
Pkay, I'd call the 5 the Clan to incorporate the Witch and her followers.
Must be so weird for the Seer to be a bad guy
So a non SPV type vote for me, guess it should be a WHV (witch hunt vote) anyways
WHV for a random to begin

we'll just say that with no support from the others in the village, the Witch is left powerless and is easily discovered and killed.
Just noticed Masoni's post above, skimmed this during signups and thought it was a reference to the plan of not voting to force the seer into the open. I guess that's what I get for skimming. So now that we're not supposed to abstain, I'll cast a random SPV, I'll give Smithy a bit of time to get on.
So the game has started. As captain of the guard I must see to my regiment, so I will cast a WHV now. See you all in the morning.

OK Just a side note......Harry, your AVI is funny and creepy at the same time.
I think I am going to vote for the server. I have an issue with one so willing to serve others and not think for themselves...(that is a vote for ching, and it is a character vote not a personality attack)

Don't forget to check talkbox invites City Council Members! And everyone should check for the Witch Hunter talkbox. We only have one Witch Hunter at this point.
Hey all! How come these always start after I go to bed??? That said, I didn't sleep all that well. I did a sleep study so I had a monitor strapped to one arm all night. It was uncomfortable when I rolled over on it! LOL So today is going to be an interesting day!
ETA: Hey all- can we refrain from voting off an inactive so quick? There's a 4 to one chance that they will turn out to be human and it sounds like this game is hard enough on the humans as it is. An inactive human is still a human after all. Let the wolves pick him off if they wish...or if he's a wolf, the night will time out and we'll have a better reason, but at this point killing him just because he's inactive seems self-destructive.

Yes, but even if he is a human then the wolves will let the nights time off so we will vote for an inactive in later rounds. If the wolves do not let night time out then they are essentially clearing a player in round one and that does them no good. At this point if Smity is inactive then it goes one of two ways, we shoot him now and possibly shoot an inctive human, or we do not shoot hime, the wolves let night time out, someone gets eaten and we shoot smity next round.......just my 2 cents

Oh, boy, two different ideas suggested, both have merit. However, I'm also of the mind that an inactive is the way to go in the first round since there really is nothing better to go on. Inactives, for whatever reason they are inactive, are not helping anyone except the wolves in my opinion. I'll wait a bit before voting, we still have 9 hours, but 6 days inactive is still quite a long time.

Longhorn, I do see your point, but I disagree. I had a response all written out, but I don't want to annoy everyone. LOL Suffice to say that I think shooting an inactive (just for being inactive) so early in the game works to the wolves advantage.
ETA: HA! Bradon, I must have been typing as you posted. I completely disagree that an inactive helps the wolves. At worst, an inactive slows down gameplay if a wolf - annoying, but hardly threatening. Until that person comes back or we have some other evidence (e.g. every night has timed out, we haven't found any wolves, and if we don't find one in the next couple of rounds, the humans lose), we have a minimum of five rounds before it becomes do or die. In which case, shoot him in round 4!

inactives can really mess with a game
not only night time outs but also sometimes it is advantageous for a wolf to keep inactives around
but we still have 9 hours left so maybe he will come on

I disagree big time for multiple reasons. First things first, in round one, there is ALWAYS a 4-1 chance we are shooting a human, since there is almost never anything said or done that is wolfish so early, enough to shift the odds that far from 20% anyway. I would actually be more inclined to let inactives slide later in the game, when their inactivity may be indicative of them having lost interest in the game, something wolves are less likely to be afflicted by. However, in round one, even the inactive doesnt know their role, and since the shooting is for all intents and purposes a crap shoot, it isn't fair to shoot someone participating over someone who is likely to hold up the nights anyway. With all due respect, I don't really follow how shooting an inactive favors the wolves, but in THIS particular rule set it may...maybe that's what you meant? Besides, Smithy only has two votes on him, it's not like he's in mortal peril yet.

You are right in that it doesn't actively help the wolves. It's more passive. It helps by sheer numbers. I guess I see it that in TWG at large, this is a game of numbers. 16 humans to 4 wolves. How is it that the wolves have won somewhere between one half and two thirds of the time? One could say that the wolves are just that good, but it would follow that humans are that bad. And considering we're pulling from the same pool of players, I don't think that's the case. That said, I do understand that round one is a crap shoot anyway, but I have seen these arguements often in subsequent rounds and that's where I think it helps wolves. Maybe I was premature in arguing my case.

The wolves naturally have an advantage in WWG, akin to the player using white in Chess. I'm not exactly sure what it arises from, but considering the unbalanced nature of the game (the objectives of the humans and wolves are so different), you wouldn't neccessarily expect a 50/50 win rate. Anyway, our precious Smithy better get on soon, cause if I have anything to say about it, his chances are looking far more dire than 50/50

I'm totally not in favour of risking shooting an active talanpoe over an inactive Smithy, so I have to break this tie. Voting Smithy.

Like what you love, and love what you got.
I ran for office on the People's ticket and I understand where you are coming from Mr. Inkeeper. That's exactly why I think I'm going to go with the vote for the traveling stranger, who on the other hand doesn't pay taxes in this town. At least that is my thinking at this point, but I could change to the City Guard if it can be determined that he has become corrupt. (Can you tell my term in office is up in the next election as well.? )
(Oh, and Deb, yes.)

I really don't see any justifcation in the tal votes, all he has is a deleted post. Some people might think that's suspicous but a wolf with any experience would be very cautious about leaving behind a deleted post, especially in a round where very little needs to be said anyway. So unless it's just to keep things interesting, not following the tal votes.

Oh wow, it seems as though a lot happened during the hours when I was asleep and at scholl...random vote at WittyKitty (sooorry!!!) for now....
I would have to agree that an shooting an inactive does not favor the wolves. Later on in the game, if we were to leave an inactive around for a few rounds, that wouldn't help much because finding the wolves and witch is usually based on 1) what people say in their posts and 2) how they vote. An inactive does not have either of these things. As much as I would like having Smithy around because he's a good player, I think it is the better move to leave those who are active in the game right now. Therefore, my vote goes to Smithy.
EDIT: Just to keep track of the voting list to see who is changing votes and whatnot:

Livin' that mom-life...
Might not be back on, switching to Smithy, sorry darling
I had posted a commentary about why I think inactivity tends to favor wolves but concluded that my phrasing could have been taken the wrong way and might have offended some people; so since I couldn't think of an easy way to redeem it, I deleted it. Didn't realize it would set off a firestorm. Sorry for the cryptic behavior (that really wasn't all that cryptic, truth be told.)
Will review the voting now...
OK. Changing to Smithy who is the current majority. With 11 minutes left in the round, it's likely that's how it will end.
